Microsoft recognizes that Minecraft can help kids get into programming, and is betting on this strategy once again this year. The Minecraft Hour of Code Designer tutorial teaches children 6 years and older to make a simple game. It was developed by Microsoft and Code.org. The Designer lets you easily illustrate common concepts in code, like loops and object-oriented programming. It allows you to let your imagination run wild in the Minecraft world of blocks. You can create chickens that drop gold and other rules that are as rational or bizarre as you'd like.
The tutorial is available right now in 10 languages and it'll be available in 50 languages by the time Computer Science Education Week kicks off on December 5th. SKINS This won't be the same as picking up programming languages however, of course. Microsoft and Code.org hope this will show children the importance of programming languages and help them begin the path to a career in computer science.
