Senate Hearing on Kids' Safety.S

"Squid Game," dystopian South Korean horror series, is the most watched TV series on Netflix. However, it is quickly becoming controversial.

The latest controversy that has erupted around "Squid Game" which is classified as TV-MA in the United States, relates to the excitement it has created among children. This includes warnings from an Australian school that children as young as 6 are creating games from the gory and dark show. In Australia, similar warnings were issued by teachers in Sydney and Western Australia.

In "Squid Game,"" characters are competing for cash prizes by taking part in challenges that are akin to the classic Korean children's games, with "losers" being killed at the end of each round. These games, which emphasise the show's bizarre approach to children's play, are played in highly stylized arenas, such as a large-sized playground for children. These traditional playgrounds for children are often left covered in blood and littered with corpses after each game. 35eng The show is definitely popular among children's online cultures.

YouTube Kids has a number of popular channels that capitalize on the "Squid Game" trend. These channels are designed for viewers younger than 12. The content on YouTube includes How to Draw "Squid Game" characters, videos of characters, and gameplay videos from Roblox that include "Squid Game".

"Squid Game" has become a very common theme in these user-programmed Roblox games. Many Roblox videos that feature "Squid Game", have hundreds of thousands or even millions of views.

On both the main and kids' version of YouTube, videos aimed at children show children (often children) playing these "Squid Game" inspired games in Roblox and Minecraft, with the "Red Light, Green Light" challenge emerging as a particularly popular trend. This challenge is also trending on TikTok, with people emulating the game in a vast variety of real life settings and videogames Roblox and Minecraft.

"Squid Game"'s most popular moment is "Red Light, Green Light". The meme-ified giant animatronic doll which functions as a motion sensor in the game has been extensively memeified. The doll is often featured in thumbnails of videos for "Squid Game"-related YouTube content for children.

These YouTube videos of children are quite harmless. However, they demonstrate how "Squid Game" has gotten into digital content explicitly targeting children in the early years. However, the lines between content for children and adults online has always been a mystery.

YouTube has been the focus of numerous controversies regarding inappropriate content targeted towards children. TikTok has also been affected by similar concerns regarding children's safety and the content that is watched by children. TikTok provides full access to the app for children older than 13, however, reports show children much younger are using it: Like YouTube, TikTok is currently facing a U.S. Senate hearing on kids' safety.S. Federal Trade Commission, in 2019, made major changes to clarify the distinction between adult and children's content available on the platform. YouTube now requires creators to tell YouTube that their content is designed for children. Machine-learning is utilized to identify videos that have an identifiable target audience.

YouTube is a different platform than broadcast television. YouTube's content is popular with children , and is often different from children's TV.

YouTube content for children that riffs on "Squid Game" characters and scenes continues a long-running trend of "mashups" content for children.

Like "Squid Game" content, "mashup" videos harness the latest trends in themes, search terms , and characters - usually featuring popular characters in thumbnails and video titles.

The "Momo” phenomenon of 2018 and 2019 mirrors the growing worldwide fear of children taking part in "Squid Game" challenges. A picture of a spooky-looking figure went viral on the internet. The photo was actually a Japanese sculpture.

A global news story broke about "Momo," claiming the creature was being featured in children's content on YouTube and urging children to take part in dangerous games and challenges.

As is currently happening in relation to "Squid Game," official warnings were sent to parents regarding the "Momo Challenge," advising them to be aware. It soon became apparent that the "Momo Challenge" was most likely a viral hoax.

Momo represented parents' worst fears regarding the dangers children face through internet use. Concerns about "Squid Game's" influence on children share the same tenor The fears may not be a response to actual dangers, but a expression of our displeasure with how easily adult-oriented media can be incorporated into online content targeted at children in the early years.

The inter-generational appeal of streaming media shows how streaming media challenges the notion of "child-appropriate content."

Adult concerns regarding "Squid Game"'s harmful influence on children are rooted in earlier concerns about this "mashup" as well as about children's interactions with the internet more generally.
