Warcraft: Khadgar's Life before Leading the Kirin Tor

The human Khadgar is among the most powerful magi in World of Warcraft. Since the First War ravaged Azeroth, Khadgar has been a well-known character. He was among the main warriors in Warlords Of Draenor and Legion. However the mage has taken an insignificant role during the two expansions that have followed. This will change when he makes his major return to the spotlight in Dragonflight. What his story will entail is unknown, but it will surely have major implications for the future of Azeroth.



Khadgar was not always the powerful mage World of Warcraft players have come across. He was a young boy who loved magic and wanted to learn more about it. He was an avid reader however, his life would soon be thrown out of control when the time came for him to become an advocate for the people. The world of Azeroth might have suffered a worse fate without him.

Khadgar's Apprenticeship

When Khadgar was 17, he was sent to apprentice under the great wizard Medivh. To many, including Khadgar, Medivh seemed like nothing more than a kind and eccentric old man. Upon arriving at Karazhan, Medivh would put him to work cleaning his library. As Khadgar wandered, he stumbled upon a room that held a vision of humans fighting against the orcs, and it looked like he was leading the charge. This shocked Khadgar, as he had no idea why he would be leading this army into battle.



Medivh attacked Khadgar and accused him of being a theft thief. However the sage swiftly apologized after recollecting who Khadgar actually was. He took him to the south of the kingdom, where he was able to climb over gryphons to make up for his mistake. Khadgar was able to meet his first warlocks and orcs. They also met with Champion Anduin Lothar, who would entice Medivh to join Stormwind's defenses. Medivh refused. In response, Lothar would ask Khadgar to take over as Medivh's caregiver as he made further uncertain decisions.

Medivh would begin acting even more unpredictable and would remain in seclusion for days. Khadgar began to question Medivh's actions , and be worried that something was wrong with him. He decided to go out to meet the half-orc Garona, and they began to figure out the truth about what Medivh was doing. Khadgar realized that Medivh was attempting to open the portal between Azeroth, Draenor. He ran to King Llan Wynn to collect an army of soldiers under the command of Anduin Lothar.



The group confronted Medivh and discovered that he was able to establish a psychic link to Gul'Dan, the warlock. Khadgar confronted Medivh and was able plunge his sword into the heart of his master. However, Khadgar would lose his life force and magical energy. He would leave Karazhan with the energy he had lost and would bury his master.





The Aftermath of Medivh's Death

The orcs would go on to destroy Stormwind and force the humans to flee to the kingdom of Lordaeron. Khadgar would flee with them, but the battle with Medivh would forever alter him. His life force would remain drained, leaving his face to take on the appearance of an old man with white hair. Luckily, he would still maintain the strength and agility of a young man.



Khadgar would be appointed the official liaison of the Council of Six to Anduin Lothar. He would be instrumental in assisting in the fight against the Horde during the Second War, and they would bring the orcs back to the Dark Portal. Anduin Lothar would be killed there however Khadgar destroyed the place. He would oversee the construction of Nethergarde Keep to defend against another Draenor invasion and that attack would quickly come.



Khadgar would later lead an expedition into Draenor to stop the Horde once and for all, after they attempted to invade for three times. Khadgar would be forced to close the portal from the other side and cut his troops away from Azeroth. The Alliance believed he perished, and would immortalize him with the creation of a statue. They didn't know Khadgar would become the protagonist of many World of Warcraft expansions.
