Yes, the image you see above is of an actual map created in Minecraft. It's part of a huge, realistic terrain project which offers 16 square kilometers of diverse topography to build your own on. It's a gorgeous collection of deserts and mountains, as well as swamps and forests that you can download and use as a background for your own Minecraft builds.
The map is called Kythor, and it was constructed by qwryzu in the course of about two months of work with World Machine and World Painter. "I intentionally made this map with huge open spaces to build," qwryzu says, "specifically using mods (shoutout Immersive Railroading gang). Although it isn't the most detailed map I have ever made, I hope it serves as a backdrop to large-scale constructions.
You can download the map over on Planet Minecraft. It is available for Java Edition and, although it was created in 1.12.2 it is compatible with any current version. However, qwryzu isn't sure if the changes in the world's height in 1.17 could cause issues.
Seriously, though, just take a look at this thing.
