What are Things that Taste Like?

Alex: You have also contributed to a free Marketplace map of Summer's base.



Max Brooks: Yes! When you go into the map, it's after Summer and Guy have left and the mountain you see is not exactly as it was in the book. Actually, that was another big problem. I was at the halfway point of the story The Mountain when I finally decided to sit down and play the game. The Nether changed from top to bottom. Instead of being angry, I realized that this was the most important thing I learned in my life. You must adapt to the world as it changes.



Alex: The book is extremely detailed, just like The Island.



Max Brooks: Research is a key component of everything I do. I don't write that many books because I have to research for years. When it comes to something like Minecraft, I live under the fear of someone saying, "That would never happen!" So I played hundreds of hours playing Minecraft to make sure the physics of the game are reflected in the book. Plus, there are certain things that just happen in Minecraft that you can't imagine on your own. In The Island, my character shoots his last shot at a creeper and hits a bat which happens to fly by. That really happened when I was playing Minecraft!



Alex: The authenticity of these books is what makes them so much fun.



Max Brooks: Yeah, and, with everything I write I'm hoping to establish trust with the reader. They need to know that they can trust me to take their trip through a place that I know, and that I serve as their tour guide.



Alex I was impressed by your insights into what Minecraft smells like. Netherrack This was a great eye-opener.



Max Brooks: Sarah Peed my editor is truly a blessing. On the first book, she pushed me to ask what the Island feels like. BITRIX.LA What does it taste like? What is the feeling of the breeze on your face? How does the grass feel under your feet? I want the book to be an immersive experience, so I thought that netherrack should smell sulfurous. It must smell like farts. Yes, you read that right! Night Vision should taste like carrot soda. It should be bubbly, tangy, and have a slight tingle on the tongue. I wanted people feel like they were there.
