Warcraft: Khadgar's Story before Leading the Kirin Tor

One of the most powerful magi in World of Warcraft is the human Khadgar. Khadgar has been a prominent figure ever since the First War ravaged the land as one of the most important guardians of Azeroth during Warlords of Draenor and Legion, but has taken some time off during the two most recent expansions. When he makes his big return in Dragonflight the entire story will change. What his story will entail is still unknown, but it will surely have a major impact on the future of Azeroth.



Khadgar was not always the powerful mage that World of Warcraft players have learned about in their adventures. There was an age when he was an innocent child who wanted to study the art of magic. He was an inquisitive person however his life was quickly dispersed when he was made to become a champion of the people. Without his leadership, the world of Azeroth may have suffered a fate worse than death.

Khadgar's Apprenticeship

When Khadgar was 17, he was sent to apprentice under the great wizard Medivh. To many, including Khadgar, Medivh seemed like nothing more than a kind and eccentric old man. Upon arriving at Karazhan, Medivh would put him to work cleaning his library. As Khadgar wandered, he stumbled upon a room that held a vision of humans fighting against the orcs, and it looked like he was leading the charge. This shocked Khadgar, as he had no idea why he would be leading this army into battle.



Medivh confronted Khadgar and accused him of being a thief. Eighteightsix But the sage swiftly apologized after recollecting who Khadgar really was. To make up for it the sage took him on a trip to the southern region of the kingdom, atop gryphons. In the south, Khadgar met his first orcs and warlocks. They also encountered the Champion Anduin Lothar who would enlist Medivh to join Stormwind's defenses. However, Medivh refused. Lothar would then ask Khadgar to take over as Medivh's caretaker in the event that he made uncertain decisions.



Medivh was more unpredictable and would spend many days in solitude. Khadgar began to question Medivh’s actions and worried that something was wrong with him. He went to meet Garona, half-orc, and began to comprehend what Medivh was up to. Khadgar realized that the great wizard was trying to open an entrance between Azeroth, Draenor. He ran to King Llan Wynn to collect a group of soldiers under the command of Anduin Lothar.



Medivh was questioned by the group and they discovered that he had a psychic connection to Gul'Dan who was a warlock. Khadgar was able to attack his master and was able plunge a sword into his heart. But, Khadgar would lose his vitality and magical energy. He would leave Karazhan with the energy he'd lost and then bury his master.





The Repercussions of Medivh's Death

The orcs would go on to destroy Stormwind and force the humans to flee to the kingdom of Lordaeron. Khadgar would flee with them, but the battle with Medivh would forever alter him. His life force would remain drained, leaving his face to take on the appearance of an old man with white hair. Luckily, he would still maintain the strength and agility of a young man.



Khadgar would be appointed as the official liaison for the Council of Six to Anduin Lothar. He would play a key role in helping combat the Horde during the Second War, and they would bring the orcs back to the Dark Portal. There, Anduin Lothar would lose his life however Khadgar destroyed the portal. He would oversee the building of Nethergarde Keep to defend against another Draenor invasion and that attack would quickly come.



Khadgar would go on to lead an expedition into Draenor to stop the Horde once and for all, after they attempted to invade a third time. He was required to shut the portal on the opposite side and then cut off his forces from Azeroth. The Alliance believed that he was dead, and would immortalize his memory with the creation of a statue. They didn't realize that Khadgar would be the protagonist of a variety of World of Warcraft expansions.
