The first time you launch the game for the first time you will require an Internet connection. However, you can continue playing offline without any issues.

Minecraft: Java edition for LINUX
This should install all dependencies required for Debian-based distributions, such as Ubuntu. You can also install the package via the terminal if your environment does not have a visual package manager.
apt-get install Minecraft.deb
On Arch and Arch distributions the package is available as minecraft-launcher from the AUR. AUR is a repository for community for packages. The Arch Wiki has more information about how to use it.

You can also download the raw launcher files from other distributions as an archive. Log Design Download them to a location and run them in the method you like (e.g., from the terminal, creating shortcuts, etc.). Java and some dependencies will be required, and will most likely be installed on standard Linux desktops.
