To bring awareness to the dire condition of mangroves and the urgently important benefits they bring, Minecraft created Rooted Together,
Interactive map that lets players explore a mangrove-based ecosystem within-game
.
The game lets players plant mangroves, measure CO2 levels, and observe new wildlife. It's an interactive demonstration of how trends in climate and biodiversity as well as changes in climate are impacted by the health of mangrove habitats. The more mangroves players plant the less likely climate change, and the more animals will be able to return to their home.
TNC Conservation Support
In addition to the game's interaction with mangrove ecosystems, Mojang Studios will be contributing $200,000 to TNC in support of our mission. Additionally, Minecraft creators hosted individual stream for charity this past July, attracting 33,500 live-streamed viewers and more than 350,000 video on demand views. The creators of the stream played Minecraft live and helped educate viewers on the importance of mangroves worldwide, as well as presented some of the TNC's efforts to save and restore this crucial ecosystem.
