This weekend, I've got two Bujolds and a butcher to read. As an indication of how busy I've been, I've yet to read Peace Talks, let alone Battle Ground.

The multi-threaded performance looks entirely plausible, however the single-threaded performance is a surprise. It's only one benchmark and it's perfectly possible that this benchmark runs particularly well on Zen 3. Passmark scores are very closely linked to Python performance in code. It's therefore a useful benchmark.



If it's able to be proven AMD's newest 6 core processor has 110% of the single-threaded performance , and 94 percent of the multi-threaded speed of Intel's flagship 10 core 10900K. It's more efficient than an 18-core Xeon Gold 6140.



It would be a significant improvement to my Ryzen 1700.



Even when it says "Ships from and is sold by Amazon" you have to look over the fine print.



I didn't get burned - this doesn't apply to the model that has 400GB capacity that seems to be genuine. But if you look up SanDisk microSD cards on Amazon AU, everything smaller than 400GB is accompanied by a strange disclaimer:

Speaking of spare laptops it turns out that Old Spare Laptop has exactly the same problem with its battery as New Spare Laptop.



Old Spare Laptop has a loose connection. This, in conjunction with the battery failing makes it unreliable when it's connected. It turns out that the problem is with the charger cable, not the laptop. I remembered that I had another charger with the same plug, so I switched them out, and then it worked.

In Hololive news Gawr Gura surpassed 1 million subscribers and Mori Calliope reached 500k in the same Minecraft collab stream (which I was able to catch live), and Calliope had the #1 iTunes album worldwide on the same day. Coco is back to smear her fans and HololiveCN is being, um, granted independence.



HoloCN girls will receive all rights to their characters in order to be independent. China is too toxic for Cover to be willing to deal with right now, particularly with the huge success of HoloEN.

Huawei has launched the Mate 40 series powered with the brand new Kirin 9000. (AnandTech)



The Kirin 9000's primary feature is the massive Mali G78MP24. My Mediapad M3 comes with a Kirin 950 with an Mali T880MP4, meaning it's 6 times faster even before clock speed and architectural improvements.



You'd need to be insane to purchase a Mate 40, though. It's not cheap, and it does not include Google services and production of the CPU - which was made on TSMC’s 5nm process, which is a new technology that has already been stopped by US sanctions against Huawei.
