Minecraft is an open world video game originally created by Swedish programmer Markus "Notch" Persson and later developed and published by Mojang. Minecraft's building and creative features let players create constructions from textured cubes within a procedurally generated 3D world. Other games in the game include exploration, resource collection crafting, combat, and exploration. The PC version of the game is famous for its third-party mods which add new characters, items, and quests to the game.
The alpha version of the program was publicly released for PC on May 17 2009, and, after incremental updates, the complete version was released on November 18, 2011. Microsoft announced on September 15, 2014 that it was going to purchase Mojang and the rights to the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5billion. The acquisition was completed on the 6th of November in 2014.
