During The Heroes' Quest

Fishing bait is used in conjunction with the fishing rod. It can be utilized in any fishing spot that offers the Baitfishing Spot option.



If a player is at Level 5 Fishing, they may try to catch Sardines. At level 10, Fishing players can fish for herring. At level 25, Fishing, the player can fish for pike. At levels 48/58/70, bait can be used to catch Leaping trout, Leaping salmon, or Leaping sturgeon however any type of fishing bait could be used along with the Barbarian rod to catch these fish (bait feathers or fish offcuts and roe, caviar). At 85 Fishing, fishing bait can be used to catch cavefish. In the Heroes' Quest the player will learn how to catch lava eel with fishing bait.



Each catch requires one bait piece, unless the fisherman has claimed their reward from the prawnbroker in their player-owned house which allows them to fish without bait.



Fishing bait is usually dropped by zombies, women and men as well as other undead creatures. Four sets of fishing lures are born around a dead trolling the southern part of Taverley. They are located to the south and slightly west of Turael/Spria.

Fishing bait is also used to provide food to God birds in the third and second stages of growth (Guthix Raptor, Saradomin Owl, Zamorak Hawk) and Ravens. This is logical considering that fishing bait is made of maggots. This is shown in the quest Let Them eat Pie, where the player grinds maggoty flour using fishing bait. Recipe for Disaster shows how the player uses spices on a piece of bait to make Spicy maggots.



You can use a pestle make ground fishing bait. This is what most pets eat as infants.

- Fixed an issue to prevent Fishing Bait from Ashdale being dropped on the floor which allowed players to claim free bait.

- During the quests Recipe for Disaster and Let Them Eat Pie, and also in Issue 25 of the God Letters, fishing bait is revealed to be maggots. This is the reason why zombies that are decaying and other undead creatures drop fishing bait. Fishing bait may be taken apart prior to an update on February 1st 2016.
