Worlds of Warcraft collide: Blizzard plans to merge massively the WoW servers


Blizzard plans on combining low-populated WoW servers with active realms to increase the amount of engagement.
Blizzard is planning to launch a massive global amalgamation of its World of Warcraft servers in order to sustain a healthy playerbase.



Blizzard wants all of its WoW servers to be as populated as they can be because simply having an active server results in more engagement (and monetization). The developers are looking to eliminate any disparities between realms by combining the low-populated and high-populated servers together.



This isn't the first time Blizzard has done something similar to this. Gametolia.Com It's not the first time Blizzard has done this. In the past, realms have been joined several times. The move could be triggered by lower-than-expected players, subscribers, or overall revenue. The migrations have often been successful and had a hugely positive effect on overall play, from question to raids and everything between.



"We've now completed a comprehensive study of realm populations for every realm in the world. Over the next 2-3 months, we're going to connect low-population realms to other existing realms. This will happen during scheduled maintenance. Each week, we'll connect a handful of realms until we've connected all the low-population realms in each region to a significantly larger population ," Blizzard announced this in an update.



These mergers also open the door to the new WoW Shadowlands expansion, that will launch in 2020.



The crossovers are expected to begin in a couple of months' time , and Blizzard promises that it will be an automated process.
