Minecraft is Building an Education for Students

Recently, we spoke about the Oregon Trail of our youth and the benefits of gaming, however, Minecraft goes further , bringing games into the classroom. Children across the globe have gone Minecraft crazy. What began as a two-person operation in a tiny French town has grown and consumed millions of little brains with more than 200 million copies sold. Minecraft stands out from other blockbuster games because of its blurry and boxy graphics. Simply put the game is comprised of crafting and mining. You first search for resources, and then utilize them to construct other things. The first mission is to build a home to keep yourself safe during night time, which occurs every four hours. If you fail then skeletons, spiders and zombies will devour your brains, and your character will die. Don't worry, parents there's no blood or gore in Minecraft monster fighting. Although the description above may sound very educational, researchers have discovered that Minecraft can teach children how to respond in real-world situations. It is an "open-ended game sandbox" which means there aren't any rules and it may be difficult initially. Both adults and children are forced to explore and determine what is going on in the game. There are sites like Minecraft Wiki designed to assist curious minds navigate the game. For instance, I spotted my seven-year-old watching videos on YouTube that she had searched out looking for Minecraft help. Children can also seek assistance from their peers who are also Minecraft players with the same goals. You can also get help from them to learn tricks and tips. Minecraft resources are extremely valuable while in-game. Other players can attack a player, take them down (remember there is no blood) and take all of their treasures. To avoid conflict, players must be aware of how to shield their possessions from the other players. When players are working together, there is always a chance that one of the other builders might become angry and ruin the hours of hard work. So in other words, it's a dog-eat-dog world inside of Minecraft. Even though it sounds cruel, children are captivated by the game and spend hours building their own town, historic monument or anything else they can think of. MINECRAFT SERVERS There is no limit to your creativity in Minecraft. It is easy to understand how Minecraft can be used to tackle real-world problems. This can be achieved by collaboration, social skills, and security awareness. This is why a lot of educators have chosen Minecraft to be a tool in their classrooms. Minecraftedu.com was specifically designed to assist teachers and children in classroom settings. Through the provision of thousands of licenses to teachers, Minecraft has allowed children to learn important life lessons in an engaging environment (what child doesn't want to play games?) The foundation has lessons plans that are updated by educators daily to function as a collective group or community.

As the video clip demonstrates that digital citizenship is becoming increasingly important as technology becomes more dependent on it. Children need to be able comprehend the importance of online safety, bullying and proper conduct. Minecraft is a game that interests children and encourages them to adopt digital citizenship ideas in a controlled environment.

We are a major supporter for STEAM education (science technology engineering, arts and mathematics). We encourage our youth to explore technology as early as they can and see where their creativity takes them. Read more about our STEAM efforts here when we take an elementary school and a bunch of cool gadgets such as the Raspberry Pi to see what we can learn together.
