If you have never experienced Minecraft then there's no better way to experience it on consoles. The PC version is still the best choice for the most comprehensive and most expansive version. However, future updates will allow you to play the PC version. At the moment, it's still an excellent option to play a great game. It's a great source of player-driven and created fun. It's a game I strongly recommend.
