The most played building game Minecraft lets players create their own worlds. However, a brand new 3D gaming map allows gamers to explore the UK and build new settlements in their virtual back gardens.

Minecraft Britain was built using Ordnance Survey UK maps as a base. It was built with 22 million Minecraft building blocks.

It covers an area of 86,000 square miles of mainland Great Britain and the surrounding islands and each block represents 50 square metres.

Ordnance Survey used 22 million blocks from Minecraft to create an interactive 3D map of the UK and its islands. The OS Minecraft world covers the equivalent of 86,000 square miles. This is the Minecraft Stonehenge located in Wiltshire.

This is how the Stonehenge landmark in Wiltshire looks in the real world

To help users navigate the interactive world, Ordnance Survey has also made available a list of coordinates to various UK markers including Stonehenge in Wiltshire.

Over 30? Then it's game over: Tetris, Pac-Man and the Atari... Are Bitcoin about to become mainstream? Canadian coffee shop...

The map was built using OS OpenData - maps and mapping tools that Ordnance Survey lets developers use to create maps that are different from the ones they currently have.

They can then walk around different terrains, such as mountains, forests and caves.

Players can also fly up in the air to get an aerial view of the surrounding landscape.

Although the original game was designed for the PC but there are now versions for mobile and Xbox 360.

Ordnance Survey provided height information for landmarks and buildings for each 100x100 km grid area.

The left-hand photo shows Snowdonia as it appears in Minecraft. The right-hand image shows how North Wales' mountain ranges look in real life. Developers scaled down many landmarks and buildings in the UK to accommodate Minecraft's height limitations.

Minecraft was launched in 2009. When you start the game, players are placed in a virtual game world.' Igralni The player can then explore the world and construct cities and towns. The game was originally developed for the PC but there are now Xbox 360 and mobile versions available, as shown

HOW DO I INSTALL THE MASTER HOW TO INSTALL THE MAP MINECRAFT

Players require an approved copy of Minecraft and around 5GB of disk space on their PC.

The world has a total of 3.6GB uncompressed. It requires a minimum 4GB of memory.

Players should download the MinecraftGB.zip archive to install the map

Unzip the archive to an undetermined location. Open the readme.html file in browser and follow the installation steps.

They then loaded images of all UK locations from the OS VectorMap District files.

Each 20 x 20 pixels of the map was analyzed to allow the designers to select the correct material, colour and block size.

The height data was stored in meters so developers were reduced to fit within the 256-block height limit of Minecraft.

Ben Nevis, for instance, is approximately 2,500m high. It was later converted into 128 blocks.

Ordnance Survey stated in a blog post that despite exaggerating the height of the real world, it has preserved low-lying coastal features, such as Bournemouth's Cliffs, adding interest and beauty to the landscape.

Developers used diamond blocks for motorways, emerald blocks for A roads, and pumpkin blocks for B roads. The typical leaves, water and brick blocks were used to create forests, water, and built-up areas.

After this, 32 x 32 chunks were created , and then reassembled into regions. Ordnance Survey stated that the entire process took seven hours.

The image is of the River Thames in East London Ordnance Survey stated that the entire mapping process took seven hours. Each 20 x 20-pixel portion of the map was analysed to enable developers to select the appropriate colour, material and block size.

These images show Minecraft London from above, with the River Thames running through its central area. A satellite view of the same area is shown right.
