If you’re reading this blog, chances are you like art more than the average person. Here at culture crawl, we also love art, especially community art. Central to community art, of course, are the local artists. Unfortunately, Visual Arts as a local artist isn’t always easy. This comes down to the lack of financial support.

So if you’re like us and love local art, you may have asked yourself how you can support local artists. That’s why we’ve listed 4 different ways that you can support local YVR Artists so they can spend more time creating art.


1. Attend a Local Art Exhibit

One of the first things you can do to support local artists is by attending art exhibitions in your area. For example, if you’re local to Vancouver this can be as simple as googling Art Exhibits Vancouver or Art Festival Vancouver 2022. This will introduce you to any upcoming exhibits and shows that you’re able to attend. Art exhibits make for a great way to get exposed to all kinds of artists, local as well as international.

2. Donate to a Local Art Charity

Funding has always been an issue for the arts, and unfortunately, many charities rely heavily on funding to support artists. That’s why giving back, even if it is a small gesture, can greatly benefit a local art community. Such gestures can go a long way for local artists and the organizations that support them.

3. Virtual Support

In today's age, most artists display their art virtually through various social media platforms. Following local artists on social media, shouting them out, leaving positive comments, and helping increase their online following can be of great help to a local artist. Not only does this help the artist's exposure, but also leaving positive comments can be uplifting for the artists and make a difference in their practice.

4. Commission Local Art Work

Luckily Vancouver Culture is full of amazing local artists, and if you have the funds to do so then commissioning art from one of them is a great way to support them. Not just do you get unique and amazing art on your wall but you are also supporting local artists to live out their craft.

5. Take Art Classes

This may be a unique way of showing support and although this service isn’t offered by every artist, some local artists do offer art lessons. By engaging with local art galleries or places like culture crawl, you’ll get exposure to see if there are any artists in your area that offer this kind of service. Or you can choose to do a google search and see if any artists offer lessons in the media you’d like to learn more about.
