FCC Commissioner Writes to Apple and Google about TikTok Removal

An FCC Commissioner, Brendan Carr, wrote to Apple and Google on Tuesday, asking the companies to remove TikTok from their app stores for "its pattern of shady practices regarding data." This follows BuzzFeed News reported last week that TikTok's staff in China had access to U.S.-based users' data up to January.

As you all know, TikTok is an application that millions of Americans can access through their app stores. It also collects massive amounts of sensitive information about these users. TikTok is owned and operated by Beijing-based ByteDance. all about wow private servers The company is a part of the Communist Party of China, and is legally required by Chinese law to comply to the PRC's surveillance rules," Carr stated in an email to Sundar Pichai (Sundar Pichai) and Tim Cook.

"It is evident that TikTok is a significant national security risk due to its extensive data harvesting combined with Beijing's seemingly unchecked access at the sensitive data."

TikTok is more than a video application. This is the sheep's clothing.

It collects large swaths of sensitive data that new reports show are being used in Beijing.

After BuzzFeed News published its report, TikTok quickly went on the defense and announced that it was moving all U.S. users' data to Oracle servers situated in the U.S. The company stated that it continues to use its U.S.- and Singapore-based backup servers. It stated that it is planning to "delete U.S. users private data from our data centers and move to Oracle cloud servers in the U.S."

"We're also making operational changes in line with this work - including the new department we have created, with U.S.-based leadership, that will exclusively handle U.S. user data for TikTok," the company added.

The data practices of TikTok's users have come under suspicion many times. India has banned TikTok in 2020 because of national security concerns. Former President Donald Trump and Joe Biden asked questions about the app's relationship with China and how it affects U.S. user data. In addition, Trump has proposed a total ban on TikTok or the option of selling it to the U.S.
