Nick Pope Explains Madness after his Name Trended Worldwide

Nick Pope, Newcastle goalkeeper has revealed the deceit that Toon fans caused when they hijacked an internet poll that put an England man first on Twitter.



It was all down to Newcastle fan account Toon Polls who answered an online poll by Burger King asking 'what's better' between gherkins and tomatoes.



The account jokingly replied to the tweet 'Nick Pope' and so started a trend that saw McDonalds, Easyjet and Amazon all tweeting the name of the Magpie's summer signing.



In an interview with Sky Sports, the 30-year-old revealed how he learned about the bizarre situation and how his phone went up with notifications.

Pope's name was among the top ten popular topic in the UK and ranked 10th worldwide. McDonalds offered a free breakfast to Toon Polls if the goalie could play clean against Brighton the next day. This was something he did after Newcastle's goalless draw at The Amex Stadium.
