Xbox has joined forces with the preservation society National Trust (opens in new tab) as well as a group of British creatives to create a Minecraft model of Corfe Castle. The rather complex, impressive build was sponsored by Xbox UK as part of the National Trust's archaeology festival, encouraging people to create "their own version of the ruin using the foundations."
To that end, this first build was made by an YouTube video maker named Grian who's work is showcased in the video above and on YouTube. (opens in a new tab) Utilizing historical photographs and consulting with an expert, and using Minecraft build skills with a little artistic license, Grian creates a build that highlights the most interesting aspects of Corfe Castle, including its historical octagonal tower and miniature palace, or "Gloriette." Which, as I understand is similar to a medieval kingly version of the Victorian folly.
"Grian has done a brilliant job of restoring Corfe Castle to its former glory. Minecraft Server List He not only recreated the historic styles of the castle's grounds precisely and precisely, but he also incorporated his own imagination. We are eager to see more inspirational designs created by young minds," said Martin Papworth an archaeologist from the National Trust.
