Game developer Mojang last year announced that it was working on Minecraft Dungeons -- a blocky version of the classic dungeon crawlers. Microsoft has announced that the game will be arriving on Xbox One, PC, Switch and PS4 in April next year.
The game has a distinctive Minecraft style and feel, but it also challenges the series' traditional formula. Dungeons lets players let their imaginations run wild on a vast expanse of open space. It's an adventure game that can be played online with up to four players.
Dungeons is something of a passion project for the team of a few at Mojang However, it's not the only Minecraft spin-off around. Mojang was also behind Minecraft: Story Mode, the narrative-driven adventure game that proved to be quite popular when it first launched in 2015.
According to Microsoft's most recent -- and somewhat ambiguous trailer, players that sign up through Mojang's site will be given the possibility of playing Dungeons initially, possibly hinting at a beta prior to of the official launch in April. Although when exactly that will be is still unclear.
