In response to the Covid-19 lockdown students have rebuilt their campus.

The University of East Anglia (UEA) fresher Sophie Johnston, 19, used planning software to create the grounds by playing the video game Minecraft.

She was helped by her three housemates Rebecca Bystry, 20, Tom Greensted, 19, and Matthew Wright, 19.

More than 200 students have visited the "campus" and the campus is still being constructed.

Ms. Johnston said: "We all agree that the thing we don't miss the most is the social aspect of university, the opportunity to meet and getting to meet so many different people from all sorts of backgrounds.

"The server has allowed us to stay in connected with each other, but also met people we would never have met in real life. This has been beneficial for us all to be mentally prepared during lockdown."

Students have developed places like the Ziggurat accommodation and main square LCR music venue, UEA(su), and the library at the Norwich-based university.

The four students, who are admins for the server, each have different roles and responsibilities, with Ms Johnston and Ms Bystry developing the structures, and Mr Wright answering player questions via text chats and voice calls and Mr Greensted, who has learned to code himself and is responsible for troubleshooting.

The Minecraft creative mode gave unlimited access to Minecraft materials This meant that the campus was built by students.
Because we all love games

With the assistance of other players they are still working on the interiors of certain buildings.

Ms. Johnston said that "Since our first year hasn't been in all of the buildings, it's been important to rely on the assistance of other students, staff, and alumni who have donated photos to help us. There was a lot of recalling!"
