Sony Ericsson will Showcase over 20 Games Designed Specifically For Xperia Play

One thing we did not like in our Xperia Play review was the absence of games that are specifically tailored to the handheld's buttons. It's fair to mention that there are a variety of new games coming out, some old and some new, all of them optimized to work with this particular style of button-mashing. Headline acts include Minecraft (a port that we've seen before) as well as Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard and Battlefield Bad Company 2, both of which have been accruing headshots on iOS devices for some time in the past. The details will be announced at E3 next week when the Xperia Play will compete for attention alongside the Sony NGP. We'll have to wait until the right time to play around with force.

London, June 2, 2011 - Sony Ericsson has teamed up with Gameloft again to provide an exclusive experience exclusively for its most popular gaming phone Xperia(tm) PLAY. This exclusive experience includes access to Tom Clancy's full-on spy thriller shooter Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Shadow Vanguard, adapted by Ubisoft. Xperia(tm) PLAY brings high-octane, international action adventures to the Android operating system by making the most of the phone's incredible graphic capabilities and game-changing pad. The Android version will be available to Xperia(tm) PLAY customers in Western Europe during June and July.



Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, a video game brand based on Ubisoft video game franchise, is one of the most popular. It's a highly-charged tactical first-person shooter game that is based on a fictional international counter-terrorist group known as "Rainbow." The game is more focused on tactics and stealth, rather than firepower. Weapons (including assault rifles, high caliber handguns and uniforms) are chosen to match the capabilities and objectives of each operative.

In June and July 2011, consumers across Western Europe who have an Xperia(tm) Play will be able to download a free copy of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard. During this time , the game will be available for Android only on the Sony Ericsson Xperia(tm) PLAY.



In addition, Sony Ericsson also announces 20 new games which include 10 exclusive titles, optimized for Xperia(tm) PLAY. A majority of the games will be displayed at E3 the world's biggest games expo, June 7-9.



The new titles are appealing to a wide range of people and occasions, from innovative multi-player online games (MMOs) to immersive titles to new, graphically rich casual content.



Amongst the titles that were announced today is Minecraft(tm), the much anticipated game by the Swedish indie developer Mojang. Minecraft(tm) is one of the fastest growing game franchises in the history of gaming, with over eight million registered players to date and over 50,000 new players joining every day.



Sony Ericsson can confirm that new games from the Sony Computer Entertainment's collection of classic PlayStation 1 titles will be coming to Xperia(tm) PLAY very soon.



Sony Ericsson's involvement in the Android ecosystem also includes its partnerships with major industry players such as Unity and Havok together with whom it is working to build an ever-growing ecosystem. Sony Ericsson is launching a program to support and identify new innovative developers, called "Stand out from the crowd" that allows game developers to become part of the Xperia(tm) PLAY story and get their games the exposure they need. Sony Ericsson will attend E3 in Los Angeles from June 7-9 to show off the Xperia(tm) PLAY, as well as other games on booth 713.
