Hey, here's some good news regarding NFTs! Mojang has released an updated guide to the rules governing NFTs and blockchain.
There are a lot of scams out there regarding NFTs, especially when it comes to companies using "blockchain" when they don't require it. Thankfully, Mojang have listened and set out some rules and the basic idea is that "integrations of NFTs into Minecraft are not something we will accept or support" they said.
Their news post goes over an introduction to what NFTs are, and gives a brief overview of the reasons they have rules for server owners as well as creators of content, which is to "ensure that Minecraft remains a community where everyone has access to the same content". The issue is how NFTs "create models of scarcity and exclusion that violate our guidelines and the nature of Minecraft".
Mojang will make their position clear on it all stating that "As as a result, to ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not allowed to be integrated inside our Minecraft server and client applications nor may they be used to create NFTs with any in-game content, including worlds persona items, skins or any other mods. ".
This is good, because it should hopefully prevent another Blockverse that was intended to be a "on-chain Ethereum NFT that would allow a unique P2E on Minecraft". Can you guess what happened? They took a large sum of money and then vanished with it.
However they're not ruling out the possibility of using blockchain in Minecraft if it might "allow for more secure experiences or other practical and inclusive applications in gaming" but they're currently no plans for it as of right now.
