A genuine Nintendo Wii gaming PC now exists, and the compact stealth model can run Minecraft at 4K resolution. The custom build can even handle games that are competitive, such as Fortnite and Rocket League, thanks to its AMD Ryzen 5 APU and a few clever console shell changes.
Created by AlexTriesTech created by AlexTriesTech, the Nintendo Wii gaming PC, also known as 'WiiC' is a rig disguised as a low-spec family console that was released in 2006. The AMD Ryzen 5 5500U-powered machine can play Wii games using Dolphin but it's a full-fledged Windows 11 system and will play a significant portion of your Steam library.
The insides of the WiiC originally belonged to an old Ryzen APU PC, but AlexTriesTech has trimmed the system's motherboard to help it fit inside the Nintendo Wii's cramped chassis. Naturally, the build ditches extras such as Gamecube controller ports and its disc drive in order to make everything work, and the sell features modifications that enhance the airflow, reduce CPU throttling and ultimately increase the speed of gaming.
The project is the result of months worth of fiddling around, but the finished product looks like a fully functional Nintendo Wii. It's even covered with RGB lighting, something that helps replicate the blue glow of the original console's disc slot.
While the Wii stealth rig could seem like a novelty, benchmarks show it's more than a joke. The micro-computer can produce over 100fps in Fornite and run Rainbow Six: Siege at 1080p 60fps, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider is playable on a small PC. As mentioned above it is able to run Minecraft at 4K, so you can pair it with the most powerful gaming monitor and play the classic block game in a higher-resolution.
We had previously decided that the Queen's Golden Wii should be turned into the best gaming PC, but we're happy to settle for AlexTriesTech's creation. At a glance, you probably think it's the same old thing you used to bowl and tennis on with your Nan, and that's precisely what makes it so special.
