New hair is added for the doll's head. Generally mohair is hand-rooted through the artist before being colored to some vivid, lifelike shade. The eyelashes will also be rooted the same as the hair.

After this, the many parts of the doll are weighed down with sand, plastic pellets, glass beads or polyester fill to simulate the load of a real baby. Finally, the different pieces are reassembled to make a reborn doll .
