Citizen's rights are included in the constitution and is protected by the law. The constitution is the supreme law of the country and all other laws passed must ensure that no individual is discriminated against. Every citizen is ensured equal rights and opportunities in the country. For example, freedom of religion, speech and movement. With a constitution that protects their political, social and economic rights, citizens will feel secure and regard themselves whole heartedly as citizens of the country.

Citizens have to carry out fundamental duties and contribute towards the goods of the society. For example, all physically abled male Singaporeans are expected to fulfill National Service and defend the country. Understanding one's role in the society and working to fulfill these duties responsibly, can drive citizens towards striving for the goods of the society. Hence deepening their sense of citizenship.

National identity arises when citizens, regardless of race and religion have shared beliefs and carry out common practices. For example, Singaporeans engage in common practices like singing the National Anthem, taking the National Pledge and participating in National Day celebrations. (Analysis)
