some fun facts about pierre bonnard- he earned a law degree to make his father happy and started to practice law in 1888
he was strongly influenced by Japanese art which kind of led him to incorporate the bold colors and geometry we will later see in his paintings. He was not only a painter, but he also developed fabrics and furniture. He was actually a member of the art nuvo movement and designed a stained-glass window that he later named maternity. he had many paintings that were popular but nude in the bathtub really stood out to me ad he loved to paint his loved ones, including his wife marthe. the painting is an oil painting based on his wife. and surprisingly he painted his wife over 300 times. i love how the painting is unusal and it seems to be blurry and off focus as her body seems to be angled. he was also a post-impressionist, he was a part of a group of abstract painters called les Nabis. He was also involved in the art movement intimism. Bonnard really liked to place his figures asymmetrical and balance them against a empty space. he was a prolific artist. something i really wanted to include in my presentation is my favorite piece; its called the white cat. in this painting he used distortion to really create the arch in the cats back.
