Microsoft is expanding its world of Minecraft into a brand new action-adventure game called Minecraft Legends. The title, which is scheduled to launch in 2023, challenges players to explore the Minecraft world while it's being invaded by an evil force.
Mojang studios, part of Microsoft which is the company behind Minecraft has described this latest game as a familiar, but in many ways a new experience that is focused more on strategy and combat. The original Minecraft game, which was released in 2011, requires players to create and explore, as well as fight off zombie-like creatures.
Microsoft has announced that you are the center of any battle you lead with allies, fighting alongside them and giving them direction" in a teaser announcement. Microsoft announced that it had partnered with Blackbird Interactive who also developed the space-based strategy game Homeworld3.
Just that Minecraft Legends comes from a popular game doesn't mean it will be successful, though. Minecraft itself is one of the most popular video games ever created, in the same league as Tetris, Super Mario Bros. and Grand Theft Auto. But its efforts to go beyond that formula have not been successful.
Minecraft Dungeons, an action-adventure title in the Minecraft style was met with mixed praise when it first came out two years ago, as per a survey by Metacritic. GameSpot is another CNET corporate cousin also gave Minecraft Dungeons an "good" rating. GameSpot noted that Minecraft Dungeons was focused on fighting monsters, rather than providing a fresh twist to its original formula of world-building. GameSpot's Steve Watts stated that the game doesn't change our expectations of what games can be. Mclijst Instead, it's relying upon its own popularity.
Microsoft announced Minecraft Legends during its annual summer videogame showcase that will be held online this year. The game will made available next year for Xbox, PC and cloud gaming.
