What's coming in Minecraft 1.18, and when will it release? Together, 1.17 and 1.18 are the huge Caves and Cliffs update which will forever change the worlds of Minecraft with a huge number of new blocks, exciting new resources, and stupendous world generation changes and more. All of which we'll cover below.

Here's the Caves and Cliffs Part 2 and the latest information about Minecraft 1.18.

Minecraft 1.18 release date

Minecraft 1.18 will be released on November 30th

for both Java for both Java Bedrock editions according to the announcement on Minecraft.net. This release will form part 2 of the Caves and Cliffs update, which was originally intended to be released as a complete package with 1.17. Mojang decided to split Caves and Cliffs into two major updates in order to give them more time to work on the huge changes these releases will bring Minecraft.

I'm talking about huge. Caves and Cliffs part 1 introduced more than 90 new block types new creatures, such as Glow Squid, Goats, and Axolotls; and new tools such as Lightning Rods and Spyglasses. Caves and Cliffs part 2 will completely change Minecraft's terrain generation and make the most difficult levels more populated with all kinds of new resources and strange objects. Let's take an overview of the Minecraft 1.18 update's features.

Terrain changes: exploring below Y=0

Minecraft 1.18 is a major overhaul of world generation.

You'll be able to dig below Y-Level 0.

.

The new lowest depth is -64, and below Y=0, you'll be in the so-called "Deepslate layer" in which stone-like blocks transform into deepslate blocks. This is also true for veins of ore: you'll find copper, iron, gold redstone, and more in deepslate veins if you're below Y=0.

There are many intriguing cave structures in 1.18 thanks to the new underground terrain generation changes. The Caves and Cliffs changes were to include the brand-new Deep Dark biome, but this biome, along with its dreadful occupant, the Warden has been delayed due to Minecraft 1.19: The Wild Update.

You'll also need to search elsewhere for Diamonds due to the changing terrain. Find out more with our guide on how to find Diamonds in Minecraft.

Towering mountains

Minecraft 1.18 is currently being revamped. Now, mountains are created in a different manner. Instead of having one or two "extreme hills", or "mountain" biomes, there are five new sub-biomes which make up the different layers within each mountain.

- Mountain Meadow (Y=100-140): home to flowers and sweet berry bushes Mountain Grove (Y=110-140): home to sweet berry bushes and flowers Mountain Grove (Y=110-140): snowy, home to rabbits and Polar bears. - Snowy Slopes (Y=140-170): snowy and frozen where goats can be found. Lofty Peaks (Y=170+) are peaks of snow and stone and ice. - Snow Capped Peaks (Y=170+): same as Lofty Peaks but cold enough for Packed Ice as well.

If you're paying attention to the Y-Levels, you'll notice that 1.18 is increasing the maximum heights of mountains. Prior to that, they were limited to around Y=140, but now they can stretch up to the height limit of Y=255. This is an ideal alternative for castles and towers on mountain tops.

However, not all mountains will be as tall as this. Only the highest mountains will have the new Lofty Peaks or Snow Capped Peaks biomes. Still, these terrain changes will surely bring a new sense of exploration and discovery to the tops of any 1.18 Minecraft world. You can be sure that I will be working hard to update our list of the top Minecraft seeds once part 2 of Caves and Cliffs is out!

Lush Cave and Dripstone Cave biomes

Caves and Cliffs part 2 which dives back to the ground, brings two more cave types: The Lush Cave and Dripstone Cave.

Lush Caves are temperate caves that are brimming with moss, vines and exotic flora, such as Glow Berries, Azalea trees, Spore Blossoms and roots and dripleaf, A new type of block that can only support a person's weight for a short time before tipping over and letting the player fall. It sounds like Lush Caves will be great environments for some parkour. I'm eagerly awaiting the best Minecraft shader pack to show me these gorgeous caves.

Dripstone Caves are, predictably located in the area of the newly discovered Dripstone blocks, which naturally grow through the process of drips to form organic-looking stalagmites and stalactites. Apart from this amazing terrain feature Dripstone Caves are functionally like any other cave however they'll be highly sought-after just for the dripstone.

What about the other features that were promised in Caves and Cliffs Part 2?

Several notable additions that were scheduled to be released with Minecraft 1.18 have since been delayed, and will arrive in Minecraft 1.19 which is expected to be released sometime in 2022. The delays include the brand new Deep Dark biome, Sculk Blocks, and the Warden.

It has been confirmed that at least three of the delayed features (namely Bundles and Archaeology) will not be included with the Wild Update. However, the Minecraft team is trying to assure us that none of these features are being canceled. It's a bit of a disappointment for those who were most excited about these changes however, at least we'll soon get to explore the vast new terrain that Minecraft 1.18 will bring.

This concludes our overview of Minecraft's 1.18 update. Installing one of the top Minecraft texture pack is the best way to alter your world and restore the excitement of discovering. Or, if you want something completely different from the normal singleplayer experience Why not try one of the numerous great Minecraft servers currently available?
