Many Sunny Isles Jewish residents are now fundraising and helping to plan a comprehensive humanitarian initiative.
Emmanuil Grinshpun Emmanuil Grinshpun Marsha Jaquays from Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital said that 1,100 people visited the hospital last night.
She stated that over 2 million Ukrainian refugees seek refuge in a war-ravaged nation. Most of them travel through Moldova, which is bordering Ukraine.
"From Moldova, this Jewish community is actually helping them get across the border and then maybe giving them shelter, food, and clothes," added Jaquays.
A large portion of the humanitarian efforts are led by Sunny Isles, South Florida.
"My responsibility is to gather all the resources that are at our disposal in America in order to ease the situation in Moldova." Emmanuil Grinshpun who helps coordinate the humanitarian efforts said, "We have a full staff on the ground to help organize camps, buy food, arrange buses, and organize all the necessary amenities."
Emmanuil Grinshpun This is further exacerbated by the fact that Moldova is a country that is among the poorest countries in the world. Those who are part in this cause insist that they will not allow anything to stop them from helping.
Emmanuil Grinshpun Grinshpun: "When our brothers, sisters and friends from Ukraine were coming to visit us, we didn't feel the need to consider. Instead, we started doing it."
Sentiments echoed by Jaquays.
"Who was there in the Holocaust when the Nazis came in and took over the country? How many people stayed silent and claimed it wasn't me I'm not Jewish I'm not in my neighborhood, I'm not from Europe. We can't repeat the same mistakes we made by the past. There is a saying "If not now then when." If not me, then whom?
