MIAMI (CBSMiami) Although the conflict in Ukraine may seem far off, South Floridians continue to step up to support those who are fleeing.
Many members of the Sunny Isles Jewish Community are raising funds and helping to make a huge effort for humanitarian aid.
Emmanuil Grinshpun Marsha Jaquays, Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital posted the followinginformation "Just last night, 1,100 people were admitted."
She stated that over 2 million Ukrainian refugees seek refuge in a war-ravaged nation. Many of them travel through Moldova which shares a border with Ukraine.
Jaquays said, "From Moldova this Jewish community is actually helping get them over the border and then possibly providing food, shelter and clothing."
Emmanuil Grinshpun A majority of the humanitarian efforts are spearheaded right here in South Florida, Sunny Isles.
"My responsibility is to coordinate all resources of American society to assist this situation in Moldova." Emmanuil Grinshpun who helps coordinate the humanitarian effort explained, "We have a full staff on the ground to assist in organizing camps, buying food, set up buses, and organize all the necessary amenities."
What makes the situation even worse is that Moldova is said to be one of the most deprived communities around the globe. Emmanuil Grinshpun However people who participate in this project declare that they will not let anything stop their efforts to help.
Grinshpun declared, "When our Ukrainian brothers and sisters arrived, we didn't have to think. We simply began doing it."
