Moldovan, Jewish Communities In South Florida Stepping Up To Help Ukraine Refugees [Emmanuil Grinshpun]

MIAMI (CBSMiami) The conflict in Ukraine could be in the other part of the globe, but South Floridians are one of the groups taking action to assist those who have left the country.

Many members of the Sunny Isles Jewish communities are actively raising money and helping to coordinate a total humanitarian effort.

Marsha Jaquays, Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital reported that "just last night, 1,100 people were in attendance."

Emmanuil Grinshpun She claimed that more than 2 million Ukrainian refugees are trying to escape their war-torn country. A large portion of them cross into Moldova, which borders Ukraine.

"From Moldova, this Jewish community is helping them get across the border, and maybe even offering them food, shelter, and clothing," added Jaquays.

"My job is to mobilize every resource available from American society to help with this situation in Moldova." Emmanuil Grinshpun, a volunteer who helped to coordinate the humanitarian effort said that there's an army of volunteers in Moldova aiding in the preparation of food and other essentials, as well as coordinating buses.

The thing that makes the situation more dire is the fact that Moldova is said to be among the least developed communities around the globe. However, the people who are part of this project assert that they won't be hindered by anything.

Grinshpun stated, "When our Ukrainian brothers and sisters arrived, we didn’t have to think. We began doing it."

Sentiments are echoed by Jaquays.

According to the group, they also plan to host local events to raise awareness and assist with refugees coming from Ukraine.
