These Minecraft Ancient City Redesigns Are Gloriously Green

Minecraft builders are rehabilitating the 1.19 update's ancient cities as if they were never destroyed.

As if the dark, dark were not enough, brave builders are tearing off complete revamps of Minecraft 1.19's huge new ancient cities. It's just little bit of construction in between other projects.

The vast, crumbling structures that lie deep underground are spooky. They include ruinous pillars that abound in the darkness, surrounded by Sculk blocks, and shriekers which summon an officer to call you if you do not cross their territory.

Perhaps the wardens are just cranky because their homes have been deteriorating. Fortunately, the builders are working to bring the old cities to their former splendor. Some have been completely remodeled with lush cave greenery to show they used to be thriving cities. Some add their own legends and brighten up the darkness with lots of bright blocks. At least one of them decided to keep the spooky atmosphere. Maybe the ancient cities were always dangerous. The most audacious of these builders have even completed their builds in hardcore mode, not in a creative. I'm not doing that.

The majority of these designs get assistance for their lively auras from the best Minecraft shaders and Minecraft texture packs. Here are some of the most innovative and beautiful ancient city designs as well as links to the designers. As always, this is the latest in incredible Minecrafting. We also have some amazing designs for desert temples, bases that are underwater, as well as many other great Minecraft designs.

Unsorted Guy restores an ancient city back to its former glory. Unsorted Guy shows how he started by replacing all the sculk in the city with deepslate blocks. He also turned the ceilings into stalactites, and brought in tons tons of vines from the caves that were lush. In addition to restoring all the structures, Unsorted Guy relocates some grass blocks and creates an aquisition, and even constructs his own version of an old city farm. The place was once alive. The final building has a mountain-city ambiance because of all the water.

I'm getting big Atlantis vibes off this reimagined ancient city by Andyisyoda. There's tons of greenery that is being added to the site. It's hard to believe that these underground cities were grey and uncolored.

In the build timelapse embedded above you can watch Andyisyoda build high-fantasy bridges on a layer of water that is dripping with vines. Don't worry, they preserved some of the spookiness with a lava moat surrounding the giant center portal. They have a complete sunken city with towers, and massive draping greenery.

Fixxitt412 has managed to create an entire city by hand, in a hardcore survival mode. Chernobog This means that there is no life after death. It took Fixxitt412 100 days. The construction of Fixxitt is also green with manicured areas filled with farms and flowers. But, they haven't removed all the sculk completely. This is good.

The building has a magical feel to it too with lots of lights and stained glass that emanates from the copper conduits on top of the central portal. They even have houses for villagers to live in the darkness. I'm curious about how long they would survive.

Another lush subterranean city was built by RandomGgames (opens in new tab) and OceanManRulesZaWardo. This one is more of an overgrown style perhaps even more abandoned than the original cities are. It has a lot of leaves, vines, and traditional glowstone blocks illuminate it, much like other gorgeous green structures. The pair seem to have removed all sculk in the area and replaced it with wood walkways, deepslate arches and other landscaping elements.

This "build" is actually only two screenshots (opens new tab) However, it's a pretty good image and I couldn't resist sharing it for the other inspiration-seekers in this room.

This is the total opposite of the calming green recreations of the ancient city. If Seggie ever fleshed this out I am sure it would look like a much more terrifying place than Nether's fortress. The skull archway and blue flames are extremely threatening.

Okay it's not an actual Minecraft build at all. It's an Lego set design based off the ancient cities cooked up by Veyniac540 (opens in a new tab). But come on, that's seriously neat. If you're thinking of building it yourself, they've got the directions and a list of parts (opens new tab). After you're done with Minecraft, there are parts and instructions to help you.
