War (also known as Battle in the United Kingdom) is a simple card game, typically played by two players using a standard playing deck of cards[2] - often played by children. There are many variations, as as related games such as the German 32-card Tod und Leben ("Life and Death").

Gameplay[edit]
The goal of the game is to win all of the cards.
Each player gets a down stack , and the deck is divided evenly among the players. Each player will reveal the highest card from their deck in unison. This is known as"battle" or "battle". The player with the highest card will take both cards and move them to their stack. Aces are high, and suits are ignored. [2]
If the cards are equal in value, there's a "war". [2] The two players put the three cards face-down and then face-up another card. Nici's blog The winner is the player with the highest face-up card. They then add all cards to their deck. If the face-up card totals equal, the battle continues with another set of face down/up cards. This continues until one opponent has a stronger face-up card. [2]
The exact details of what happens when a person runs out of cards in a war are not clear in the majority of descriptions of War. 2 In certain variations the player is immediately lost. In other variants, the player may choose to use the last card from their deck as their face-up card for the remainder of the war or replay the game from the beginning. [2]
There are multiple players who can play war. In a three-player game, each player is given 17 cards. In a four-player match, each player receives 13. Just like in the two-player version of the game, each player is required to reveal his card. If the top cards are tied, they will go into war. All players, even those who aren't tied will play a face down card , and then the next face-up card. The player with the highest number of cards at the end of the war obtains all the cards that have been played. [2] The player who is out of cards is removed from the game and is no longer allowed to play. The game continues until one of the players has collected all their cards. [2]
Game designer Greg Costikyan has observed that because there are no options in the game, and all outcomes are random, it can't be considered a game by certain definitions. [3] However the rules usually do not define in what order the cards are returned to the deck. The game's outcome can be affected if the cards are returned in an unrandom order. These decisions are more obvious in smaller decks as it is easier for players to count cards. However, they can nevertheless affect the game's outcome if they are made in regular decks.
Variations[edit]
It is a game that is well-known, War has many variations. Some of the most well-known variations include:
