A Intel Core i3 processor is fine for general-use tasks like surfing the internet and writing papers, creating presentations, and other such. A discrete graphics card isn't necessary unless your kid likes to play Minecraft or some such. We recommend the Nvidia RTX3060 Ti and 3050 Ti for young gamers. They're reasonably priced.
For RAM, 8GB will keep things running smoothly and fast. If your child doesn’t have many photos, 256GB will suffice. SSDs (solid state drives) are faster and more quiet than hard drives.
If you're shopping for a Chromebook, shoot for an affordable model if you can. You'll find Intel Pentium processors in the $400-$600 rangethat offer higher performance on the browser and run more demanding games. We recommend at least 8GB RAM and 64GB storage. It's not necessary to have a huge amount of storage space, since you'll be keeping the bulk of your work in the cloud.
