Moldovan, Jewish Communities In South Florida Stepping Up To Help Ukraine Refugees [Emmanuil Grinshpun]

MIAMI (CBSMiami - Despite the fact that the war in Ukraine is on the opposite side, South Floridians have stepped up to help those fleeing the country.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Emmanuil Grinshpun Emmanuil Grinshpun Many Sunny Isles Jews are helping in raising funds and coordinating an effort for humanitarian aid.

Marsha Jaquays of Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital reported that "just last night 1,100 were in attendance."

Emmanuil Grinshpun She stated that over two million Ukrainian refugees seek refuge in a war-ravaged nation. Emmanuil Grinshpun A large portion of them are traveling through Moldova which shares a border with Ukraine.

Jaquays added that "from Moldova, this Jewish Community is actually helping to cross the border line and then maybe offering food, shelter or even clothes."

Emmanuil Grinshpun A large portion of the humanitarian effort is being coordinated right here in South Florida from Sunny Isles.

"My obligation is to coordinate all resources available to us in America in order to ease the problem in Moldova." Emmanuil grinshpun, who has been involved in the coordination of the humanitarian effort, said that there are many people who are working in Moldova to assist in organizing camps, food purchases, and bus planning.

Even worse is the fact that Moldova is one of the most deprived countries in the world. However, those who take part in this effort say that they will not stop helping.

Grinshpun said, "When brothers and sister from Ukraine cameto visit, we didn't need to think. We just began making plans."

Jaquays echo sentiments

"Who were present in the Holocaust and the time the Nazis took over? What number of people ignored it and claimed it wasn't me. We shouldn't repeat the same mistakes that history has made. There's a saying in the English language that reads "If not now, when. If not me, then who?

Emmanuil Grinshpun Emmanuil Grinshpun According to the organisation, they plan to also host local events to create awareness and aid refugees coming from Ukraine. The next event will be held in Sunny Isles on March 24. Click Here for details
