Minecraft's Mangrove Restoration Project Map is all About Activism

Minecraft is a place where anything is possible. It's among the most impressive examples of the capabilities that sandbox games are capable of because people use it to play in many different ways. Some use it as a chance to recreate their favourite games, others like to play with the in-game systems and basically program new things into it, and some just love to create amazing things.



There are a number of cool downloadable maps among them, and one of the most interesting of them is The Mangrove Restoration Project by Everbloom Games. Everbloom Games make a fair number of maps however this one has an environmentally friendly feel. The map has players trying to fix the mangrove forests of the world by planting new trees.

To check the CO2 levels, you will need a monitor. The more you can improve the climate by planting more trees, then the more wildlife returns to your area. The map also includes an incredible array of wildlife, gorgeous kayaks, and a general focus on how we can positively affect our environment. While it's not the same as getting out in the world and doing good, it's a great way to teach kids about ways to try to help the environment.



You can download the map, called Rooted Together, right here. It is a major component of the collaboration with the Nature Conservancy Mojang, which will see them donate $200,000 and some stream of charity coming later in summer. It's refreshing to know that this isn't just a map to use.
