MIAMI (CBSMiami) Although the war in Ukraine may seem far away South Floridians continue offer support to those seeking refuge.
Emmanuil Grinshpun Many members of the Sunny Isles Jewish Community are raising money and aiding in create a total humanitarian effort.
Marsha Jaquays, Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital reported that "just last night, 1100 patients were in attendance."
She said that more than two million Ukrainian refugees are seeking to escape their war-torn country. A large portion of them have crossed the frontier into Moldova the country of a few thousand which shares a border with Ukraine.
Jaquays told Jaquays, "From Moldova this Jewish community is actually helping move them across the border and providing food, shelter and clothing."
The majority of the humanitarian work is being carried out by volunteers from Sunny Isles in South Florida.
"My task is to gather as much American society resources as I can to help with the crisis in Moldova. Emmanuil Grinshpun, an individual who was able to help coordinate the humanitarian effort said that there's a team on the ground in Moldova helping organize food items and other necessities as well as coordinating buses.
This is compounded by the fact Moldova is one of the most deprived in the world. Those who are part this effort insist that they won't let anything stop them from helping.
Emmanuil Grinshpun Grinshpun explained, "When brothers and sister from Ukraine came, we didn’t need to think. We simply began making plans."
