Avanos Medical, FDA and the FDA have issued a Class 1 Recall for 629 units of the CORTRAK*2 Ental Access System. This feeding tube placement device has been linked to multiple deaths and injuries.
The devices were made available between April 1st of 2016 and January 1, 2022. https://www.openlearning.com/u/magnussenharbo-rkwy9s/blog/AvanosMedicaltheFeedingTubePlacementDevicesAreRecalledAfter23DeathsReported The devices are used by health professionals to insert feeding tubes into the stomach or in the intestines.
Since the year 2015, there have been 20 deaths and 60 injuries recorded in cases where nasogastric tubes or nasoenteric were placed incorrectly.
The recall is used to update the label of the device, which will instruct users to verify that the tube has been properly set up prior to feeding.
