minecraft servers

What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is an online "sandbox" game. Players build their own virtual worlds and experiences by using resources or building blocks. You'll need to begin by advancing through basic resources before moving to more complicated ones, but you can eventually build your world whatever way you want.

While the price range is variable little depending on the game's platform, Minecraft is never going to cost you over PS25 and this cost includes all mods (community developed improvements to the game) and skins (aesthetic additions to a character). You can play on smartphones, computers tablet, XBox, Nintendo Switch or Playstation.

Users can play in single-player mode or multiplayer mode. Multiplayer mode lets players collaborate in creating their own Minecraft world.

Why is it so popular?

Minecraft is a game that is free-form. It doesn't come with a set of rules, or a stated objective players can construct and explore as they'd like. It is often compared with virtual Lego.

This allows Minecraft fans plenty of choice in how they play. Players can create a new fantasy world or build a new one from scratch. They can fight villains and seek adventure and they can play by themselves or with friends.

It can be played at any level. You will need to have some level of proficiency to advance to the next challenge in a lot of popular games. This is a problem for kids just five years old who may not have the time or abilities to progress in a game. In Minecraft, children can create their own adventures at any level of play.

What do parents need to know?

Age restrictions

Different Minecraft versions have different age restrictions. Some mods may contain more violence than others. It is also important to keep in mind that Minecraft includes a chat feature. Age ratings vary from 7+ to 13+.

Minecraft's standard terms and conditions state that children younger than 13 years old must have parental consent to play. Children under 13 years old are able to play Minecraft in the UK without parental permission. However, it's not illegal.

Despite the age restriction, Minecraft is very popular with primary school children. The game isn't inappropriate for children.

Chat functions

There are two kinds of chat in Minecraft: Realms and Server chats. Mojang, the game developers hosts realm chat and moderators it. Server chat is set up by players. Usually, players invite their friends to join their Minecraft server and use chat. However, some players offer an invitation to anyone to join.

Remind children about the dangers of talking to strangers online.

Keep in mind that players could also be talking on Discord or another chat forum with different safety settings. Remind children not to move to other platforms to chat with others.

Chat features on sites allow children to chat with people with similar gaming interests. There is no way to determine who these people could be. Recommendation: Children should not chat with other players in-game unless they are familiar with them.

It's also important that children don't divulge any personal information about themselves, or move their conversations to other online spaces that might be private.

YouTube videos on Minecraft

Many Minecraft users enjoy watching fan-made YouTube videos to enhance their skills and learn new techniques.

A lot of them are appropriate for children. Minecraft isn't filled with particularly graphic content, but some of the videos contain spiders, monsters, trolls and zombies that some children may find scary. Some videos include explicit or sexual commentary and some encourage bullying. Check these videos to see whether you feel they're suitable for you.

You might try searching for "profanity-free Minecraft servers". Even then, it's worth checking the videos before children are old enough to watch them.

You can also turn on YouTube's Safety Modeto stop content that is inappropriate for children.

Listen to the Parent Zone's podcast Tech Shock.

Reporting functions

Currently, Minecraft does not have an immediate 'report' function therefore, your child must be aware when joining an online server. Your child may be exposed to inappropriate language and rude remarks when playing with someone older than them. However, Minecraft do reserve the right to ban any player who violates the rules and conditions.

You can report individual players by visiting Minecraft's help desk, and submitting a complaint. This might be something that an adult should do rather than a child because it's a bit complicated.

With certain plugins (add-on software that extends or customises the game) You can report players who violate the rules of the server to a moderator who can ban anyone who is offensive or disruptive.

Are there things you do not like? You can email [email protected] to submit comments and feedback.
