Pulmonary failure, pneumothorax (collapsed lungs) perforation (a hole in one's esophagus or bowel wall), pneumonia, and excess fluid between the lungs (the chest cavity and lung tissue) are all among the injuries.
Avanos Medical has described a plan to supply users with current labeling to verify the proper placement of the nasogastric and nasoenteric tube prior to use.
Avanos was the second warning issued by the FDA in 2022 about enteral nutrition tubes. The FDA sent out a message to parents and healthcare providers about strangulation risk when feeding tubes are being used by children. Two instances were reported of strangulation among children who received a feeding tube wrapped around their necks.
