Although the logo of the sandbox-based video game Minecraft has been modified multiple times, its basic "building material" - cobblestone - has been used in every and every version.

Meaning and history

Since its trial version in 2009 which was unplayed the brand's visual identity for the video game has gone through three major changes. The current logo is simple in terms of its shape and color palette, but it is still easily recognized by players all over the world.

What is Minecraft? Minecraft is one of the most popular online sandbox games created in the year 2011. Minecraft lets players create their worlds and scenarios. Minecraft can be played either by itself or in groups through an online network.

2009

Hayden Scott-Baron designed the first logo for Minecraft in 2009. However it has never been used. It was a bold sans serif design with a jumping font, which were glued together. The massive bodies of the letters had a vivid blue-green pattern. Blue is the sky and green is the earth.

2009 - 2011

The first official logo for the video game was released in 2009 The logo was a gray stylized logotype, with geometric contours of the letters, and diagonal bars comprised of pixels-squares. The gray color of the surface stood for cobblestone, and the same design was used for the game itself. The logo remained with the brand for two more years.

2011 - 2015

In 2011, the Minecraft logo was revamped. The letters were thickened and the design was refined. Although the color palette was black and gray the original emblem was gray with some black cracks. The typeface of the wordmark was changed to a more bold and more square font. This gave the logo a an edgier and more stable appearance.

2013 - 2021

In 2012, the logo was improved by adding shades of gradients to the gray color palette. This made the bold sans-serif characters appear more sleek and give the impression of professionalism and expertise. The lines of the symbols were strengthened and sanitized, and the face of the "A" was more prominent.

Special logos have been designed for the Java Edition and Bedrock Edition. They are almost identical, with a few small distinctions.

2021 - now

The 2021 redesign has altered the colors of the Minecraft logo. There are lighter hues at the bottom of the cubic inscription and more matte ones on the main surface. The shape and contours of the badge were the same. However, the new colors made it look more professional and modern.

Icon

There are two options for the Minecraft Icon used by the famous gaming site. The first is a three-dimensional cube, executed in a green and brown color scheme, with a checkered pattern that is pixel-based. The texture and color scheme are instantly connected to Minecraft and don't require additional explanation.

The second icon is mainly used on iOS. It is executed in the same brown, green, and the pixel pattern color palette as the pixels. However, it is a square image with a gradient white gray, three-dimensional "Minecraft" wordmark in all capital letters. This wordmark is placed in the middle of the square.

Font

The wordmark has been created from scratch, therefore we can't talk about an already-designed font in this instance. It is available online if you are looking for a font that is similar to that of the Minecraft emblem. This type was derived from the main wordmark and includes a complete set glyphs.

Colors

The lettering is made up of a combination of black and various shades of grey. The background is white.

What was the first Minecraft logo? The first logo of Minecraft was introduced in 2009, was a bold and vibrant inscription in sky-blue and green. It featured massive stylized characters drawn with the top arched, and the bottom cut straight. It was designed by Hayden Scott-Baron.

Why did Minecraft redesign its logo? The history of Minecraft's visual identity has seen two major changes. Finally, the perfect image was created that perfectly conveys the essence of the most popular sandbox game in the world. The first image was released in 2011. It was colored according to the previous version. minecraft servers It was more stable, professional , and more durable.
