Lego is taking on Minecraft with video game

Danish toy company Lego has announced a competitor to the popular video game Minecraft.
Lego Worlds is available for purchase at PS11.99 through the Steam gaming platform. Its final release will be in 2016, featuring both traditional and modern playsets, as well as the most popular mini-figures.
Features will be added in response to feedback from players who play the game.
Lego already sells Minecraft playsets that allow gamers to physically construct their virtual creations. And Lego Worlds will invite fans to build the same thing in reverse.
Tom Stone, TT Games' managing director, stated that Lego Worlds "embodies the physical, Lego brick building fun that people have enjoyed over the decades, on a new digital platform that delivers an entirely new experience that includes the iconic bricks."
"From the brick-by-brick editor, to discovering an extensive range of items, characters and creatures that can populate your worlds - the imaginative possibilities are endless," he added.
Favorite toy
Daniel Goldberg, who wrote a book about the growth of Minecraft said that he was "surprised" that it took so long.
"Minecraft is exactly what Lego should have done 10 years ago," he said.
"I'm certain that it will be a massive success for them."
Markus Persson, the Swedish video games developer who came up with Minecraft has never hidden his love of Lego and the admiration seems to be reciprocal.
David Gram, Lego's Marketing Director, stated in the past year that "Minecraft was a digital Lego." Arkadne-igre.net It's a fantastic idea, but we wish we had invent it.
Mr Goldberg thinks Mr Persson who is also who is also known as Notch is likely to be "flattered" by the outcome of the game.
"Lego was his favorite toy as a child and was the main inspiration behind Minecraft So it's great to see things come full circle," he said.
"I do not believe there will be animosity. Games developers in general are usually happy when someone copies an existing game."
Lego is targeted at children but also for a serious group of adult fans.
Microsoft purchased Minecraft in the year 2000. It is a huge success for both adults and kids.
Mr Goldberg stated that "the players for Minecraft has proven to be quite large, and I'm confident there will be a demand for both games."
Minecraft is the most streamed game on video.
