In less than 10 years, Technoblade amassed nearly 11 million YouTube subscribers and 3.7 million Twitter followers as he shared his love for Minecraft, a video game where gamers can create virtual worlds using blocks and create their own storylines. In August 2021, he took it public by revealing to his followers that he was diagnosed with cancer. He announced the news through a video of him playing Minecraft.
According to Technoblade's father, Technoblade wrote his last message about eight hours prior to his death. In tears, Technoblade's father described his son as "the most wonderful kid" anyone could ever ask for, and added: "I miss Technoblade."
Technoblade's father shared the sad news with subscribers to his channel.
The video that has been watched more than 19 million times, concluded with a statement from Technoblade's family which reads: "This past year had several rough times for our son as he battled stage four cancer. He didn't complain and continued to use his mind's logical approach to overcome what he knew was almost impossible odds. My son's courage on this journey was a great lesson for all of us who were privileged to walk it with him. Thank you for sharing his journey through it all and for doing the work he enjoyed for his beloved fans."
Social media has been flooded with tributes from celebrities, fans and fellow gamers.
YouTuber Ted Nivison remembered him as: "Effortlessly funny. Incredibly talented. It's gone too quickly. Rest easy Technoblade.
TommyInnit TommyInnit, another YouTube star, wrote on Twitter: "Technoblade, a legend. From being a huge fan, to one of his friends, I'm not able to express how thankful I am to have had the privilege of being in his life. I'm sure he's planning in heaven on how to defeat God."
In a statement to CNN, Sarcoma Foundation of America made a tribute to Technoblade by expressing "deepest condolences to his family."
Brandi Felser is the CEO of the charity. This allowed SFA to award Technoblade research grants. Through his efforts, he has left an impactful legacy that will be felt by generations."
Felser said that Technoblade will be honored by the organization's Courage Award, an annual honor given to individuals who inspire others "to create hope and a better world for the Sarcoma community" later this year.
