Locating .minecraft[]

Below is a table showing the default directory for .minecraft.



Locating the .minecraft folder is essential to install a resource pack or locating any screenshots that were made.



The Windows location in the table above is not the only case. Launchers can change the .minecraft at any path.



If you're a Windows user and are unfamiliar with how to find your appdata folder Follow these steps:



1. Click Start - Run. If you don't see "Run" then press Windows + R. 2. Enter %APPDATA%.minecraft and click "OK". Spotlight is a Mac-friendly way to open the folder.



1. Open Finder by pressing Shift + Command +G or the Spotlight pop-up by pressing the magnifying glass icon located to the right of the Menu Bar. 2. Type ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft and hit | Enter.


Linux and macOS use the in their paths to refer to the home directory. Folders that begin with. are hidden by default. In the majority of file managers, hitting Ctrl + H toggles their status to hidden. MacOS 10.12 (Sierra) includes the shortcut Command + Shift+. toggles the status of hidden files.

You can force the use of the resource pack by naming the zip file resources.zip and putting it in the root folder for the world to save. This feature is only available to single-players. [2] Servers can ask clients or force them to use the server resource packs in a different manner.



For Windows OS and Linux, the contents of nativelog.txt and nativeUpdaterLog.txt can be found in launcher_log.txt when appropriate (i.e. the contents ofnativeUpdaterLog.txt will only be present in latest_log.txt after the launcher is updated / launched for the first time).
