Hacker group LulzSec, the same group that's attacked Sony and Nintendo in the past, has posted that it's committed three distributed denial of service attacks on gaming companies today, bringing down EVE Online's Tranquility server, Minecraft's multiplayer services, as well as the website of the Escapist Magazine. EVE Online's CCP has confirmed the outage as well as the attack. The Escapist is unreachable currently as well as Minecraft creator Notch says that things were down, but supposedly service was restored.
LulzSec has yet to reveal a reason for the attacks however, we can guess that it's "for the laulz."
Update: Riot Games' League of Legends servers were also targeted by the group. When trying to log in to the game will show a "server busy" message, even though there's no official confirmation from the company at this time.
Update: CCP has issued a statement in response to the break. EVE Online still seems to be down.
CCP was alerted by CCP at 17:00 GMT today about a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS), against the EVE Online cluster as well as web servers.
Immediately, these services were immediately shut down. The entire infrastructure of CCP was also disconnected from the public Internet to ensure extra security.
