Greensboro Sit-in
Sit-in protest at a segregated lunch counter. Spread throughout college towns. Greensboro four; four kids from same college. Were denied service at the counter and refused to give up their seats. Police arrived but were unable to take action due to lack of provocation. stayed put until closing then came back the next day with more. -> use of non violence was a turning point
Artists of the new deal
The WPA directly funded visual arts. Each photographer was assigned a region to cover to show the progress of the new deal. Wanted to capture the life of the average american. Focused on migrants and any type of segregation.
Brown Vs Board of Edu.
Ruled to desegregate schools. Father sued after daughter was denied entry to all white elementary schools. She had to go to school miles away. Still the south had much resistance.
