Design and Build your next home In Minecraft Luis Quintanilla

By using Minecraft and Mods virtual representations of the real world can be created to teach autonomous agents how to navigate and perform tasks in this virtual world. These virtual models can be utilized by physical agents, such as Boston Dynamics bots, to implement the instructions and tasks learned from the virtual models. This allows us to imagine the possibility of being able to design and construct our house in a small amount of time by using autonomous artificial agents.

It's difficult to define Minecraft as a concept. Is it a game , or is it an educational tool? At first I didn't get it. I watched my children play this game endlessly, always looking for ways to enhance their lives. Eventually it was bought by Microsoft and since then has remained mostly unaffected. Microsoft has not abandoned it, but instead increased its reach across various platforms and loaded it with a myriad of new features, like an educational edition and cross-platform play. Redstone can be used to construct Minecraft houses, cities and even basic circuit models. Mods are modifications to the default project, can be constructed by anyone.

Dynamic Mapping

A virtual world is fantastic but what about the real world? Can we model the real world? A few months ago I was able to discover a project from the New York Public Library that produced topographically accurate Minecraft maps from historical map scans and Python scripts. Although the accuracy of historical maps isn't certain however, we can only believe that mapping practices have advanced significantly since then and can provide more information and data. Regardless, this project demonstrates that it is possible to simulate the real world within a virtual environment given the proper data.

Project Malmo

Apart from the obvious benefit of a model that is accurate, it also serves as a a starting point to train autonomous agents to navigate the environment. Project Malmo is an excellent tool that can aid in this effort. Released to the public in 2015 by Microsoft Research, Project Malmo is an artificial intelligence platform that allows research and experimentation that is built on top of Minecraft. The project is cross-platform and agents can be built using Python, Lua or C#.

While the advantages of Project Malmo aside from the educational aspect may not be obvious however, this project is extremely beneficial. The cost is not just in terms of price but also the time it takes to create physical autonomous bots can be high. It can be expensive when they fail or fail during field testing. It may be more effective to simulate the mobility and navigation in real-world environments.

Manual Labor

Once we've been trained, we have to locate or create the physical agents that will perform the task and follow instructions based upon the training conducted in the virtual environment. Recent demonstrations have been conducted of agents that could be able of handling such tasks. Boston Dynamics is one of these agents. Boston Dynamics has been creating amazing anthropomorphic and zoomorphic robotics for a long time. It is possible to conclude that if a model has been trained in a real-world context, these physical agents can be used for tasks such as building a house.

The idea of a robot building a house is not too abstract. According to reports, a house in Russia was built in less than 24 hours using 3-D printing technology. While the house had a predefined layout and the robotic arm used to build it was limited in its mobility, such capabilities could be enhanced by using a trained model being executed by advanced physical autonomous agents such as those built by Boston Dynamics.
