At its heart, Minecraft is a blocky first-person experience about making things, exploring a vast wilderness, and fighting off nasty nocturnal beasts, but that doesn't do justice to the game. Minecraft is to my 25-year-old self the same way that Legos were to my 5 year old self: a time-sucking, mind-bending, and sleep-deprived experience in the most basic of ways. It's a great tune about the process of creation.

Minecraft's primary focus is crafting tools and collecting resources to build anything you'd like. It doesn't matter if you're creating more powerful weapons to fend off creatures of night, or building that massive fortress to be a glamor to other miners around the world, you're going require the right raw materials. This game is a grind. It is worth the effort of finding the right material repeatedly.
As a self-sustaining instructor, Minecraft fails. Don't rely on Majong's limited provisions to learn the ropes of the game. Instead, I suggest searching the Net for guides created by the community. There are a lot of guides that will help you get the most enjoyment from this game. The limit is up to you.
Creative mode is best for those who want to just focus on building and not worry about defending their fortress. This mode gives you unlimited access to all tools and building blocks as well as the capability to fly.
If you're apprehensive about the lack of direction, this game isn't for you. But when it comes to open-world gameplay and mechanics, Minecraft is a primitive but fine demonstration of thriving playing with no tools. Get an axe and start digging.
