He read his son's last message on the YouTube channel where the 20-something had entertained over 11 million subscribers with Minecraft gameplay and wry commentary. The titlewas "so long nerds."
Technoblade, a YouTube personality who built an audience of millions thanks to his humorous comments on videos of him playing Minecraft, has died as his father announced in a video posted on the account of his son.
Technoblade's Minecraft gameplay was watched by more than 11 million subscribers. He also provided commentary on camera. While he was usually focused on what was happening in the game, in some videos he described everyday life events such as going to the D.M.V. or as devastating as the diagnosis of cancer.
Technoblade's YouTube channel posted a video entitled "so long geeks" on Thursday. The video was viewed more 26 million times since Friday afternoon. The video is a departure from the channel's typical style that features vibrant bricks that are pixelated. Instead, Technoblade's father appears in a chair , accompanied by a small white dog on an unassuming white background.
His father, who doesn't reveal his name and reads an email from his son that begins: "Hello, everyone. Technoblade here. If you're watching this, I am dead."
The message continues to reveal Technoblade's initial name, Alex, which he did not use online. A few pictures of Alex and his family are also featured in the video. He rarely showed himself in YouTube videos and preferred to display himself in a crowned sword-wielding porcine.
"If I had another hundred lives I'm pretty sure I'd choose to be Technoblade over and over again," Alex's letter says. "Those were the most enjoyable years of my life."
His father, who remains emotional throughout the film, says he and his son talked for months about whether or not to record a final video. Instead, Alex decided to write the letter and died about eight hours after finishing the letter, according to his father.
He adds, "I don’t think he did everything he wanted to, but I think he was able to get the main points."
The video ends with a declaration written by Alex's mother (who is not named) wrote. She stated Alex was not famous and self-deprecating in spite of his channel growing in popularity.
She wrote that Technoblade was always looking for ways to delight and reward their fans. He gave away prizes online and encouraged good sportsmanship and, most importantly, shared his Minecraft adventures for entertainment and fun.
Alex's family could not be reached on Friday. Hypixel Gaming, a gaming firm, said that Alex's family had requested no information be provided to them. "The video they posted includes all the information they're comfortable sharing at the moment," Don Pireso, the company's chief administrator stated on Twitter in a direct message.
Alex posted his August video on his YouTube channel, in which he first acknowledged his diagnosis of cancer. The video, which showed Alex's voice off camera and played the game. He retained his self-deprecating, humorous style, avoiding becoming too serious. He also admitted his age of 22.
In the video, he explained how the first round of chemotherapy left him so exhausted that it was difficult for him to sit for a virtual doctor's appointment. Then he made a joke: "Sitting in a chair I am Superman?"
He admitted to being diagnosed after he experienced severe pain in his arm. MINECRAFT SERVERS Although he initially dismissed the pain as a repetitive stress injury from playing video games, he later admitted that his shoulder was swelling after several days of rest.
He also advised people to get the Covid-19 vaccine. He claimed that his cancer treatments had weakened his immune system, making him more vulnerable to serious illness from the coronavirus.
He said, "I'm going ahead and represent all cancer patients when i say it is incredibly irritating when hospitals are overloaded by patients suffering from preventable diseases." "I'm just saying that we have the right to have priority over those hospital beds.
On social media, Technoblade's family and fans have praised him for his wit and for being a role model among Minecraft players.
Minecraft is different from other games because its creator, Microsoft does not have control over the servers where players can connect online. Instead, players can build their own servers and join others to create a vast network of worlds within the Minecraft universe.
Hypixel which is a network of Minecraft servers, announced that it had created a memorial book to allow users to write messages that would be printed and sent to the family of Technoblade. Hypixel's tribute included a drawing of Technoblade's pig as statue. "In many ways the success of a lot of us is dependent on the success of Technoblade," the company said.
